Integrative Health, a patient-centered, tick-borne disease clinic, will open their
doors this November, seeing patients Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8am
to 4pm with hours expanding (with possibly one late night a week) as the clinic
grows. Patients will be provided with extensive lab work
and testing, prescription (oral and IV) meds, as well as supplements and herbal
therapies. IV nutritional therapy and chelation therapy services will be
offered, gradually expanding to offer acupuncture, body work, ozone therapy and
injection therapy. David Aronson, LCSW, will be joining the clinic and
offering counseling services as a Lyme Literate social worker. Dr Mahoney
and Dr Aguiar welcome the addition of like-minded practitioners who want to
help them offer the best possible services to their patients. All services provided will be done on a
self-pay basis with a coded superbill given at each visit for insurance
purposes. One day a month, the clinic
will be offering a Free Care Program, offering free testing and treatments to
patients who qualify through the application process and who are accepted into
the program.
Dr. Jill Mahoney MD graduated from
Tufts University School of Medicine in 2000, after which she completed
internship at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, FL. She then served as a
General Medical Officer in the United States Navy, acting as Senior
Medical Officer for Destroyer Squadron 14 during their Spring 2002
deployment. Dr. Mahoney subsequently received the Navy
Achievement Medal for her military service. After separating from the
Navy, Dr. Mahoney completed Family Medicine residency
training at the University of Massachusetts. In 2006, she
relocated to Maine where she has been caring for patients as a
family physician for the past decade. She has received several
awards for patient care, among them the American Red Cross " Real
Heroes" award for Medical Outreach in 2013. Dr. Mahoney is grateful for the
opportunity to have worked with providers outside of allopathic medicine who
have offered their expertise regarding the care of patients with tick borne
illness.
As
a naturopathic doctor, Dr Jacob Aguiar works with each patient to create
personalized and effective treatment solutions. Prior to receiving his
Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University in Seattle, he
received his BA in anthropology from Dartmouth College, graduating Magna
Cum Laude. He discovered in a class titled “The Anthropology of
Health and Illness” that rarely is any disease confined to the physical body or
the psyche alone. Rather, the experience of health and dis-ease is a
complex interplay of social, economic, psychological, and
physical factors. This understanding is crucial in the context
of Lyme and associated diseases, which often create stressors in each of these
areas. he has studied with leading experts in Lyme diagnosis and treatment over
the last 10 years, including Dr Klinghardt MD, Dr Horowitz MD, Dr Ross MD, and
Dr Burrascano MD. He spent the
last several years treating over 1,000 patients with Lyme and tick-borne
infections at North Coast Family Health in New Hampshire. He continues to deepen my knowledge and stay
up to date with current research by attending International Lyme and Associated
Diseases Society (ILADS) conferences, other related conferences throughout
the year, and reading the latest books published by leaders in integrative
health care.
Dr
Jacob’s deep desire to bring this accumulated knowledge back to Maine to help the
Lyme community has led to partnering with his colleague, Dr Jill Mahoney MD, who
has been successfully treating Lyme disease in Maine for many years and their
decision to open a patient-center tick-borne illness clinic. They both understand that attaining health is
a process and do their best to provide proven solutions while supporting and
empowering their patients along the way.
Dr
Mahoney and Dr Aguiar look forward to working with each patient’s desires,
beliefs, and values to develop a treatment and management approach
that works to help their patients establish and reach personal
health goals.
