The Psychological Effects of Lyme Disease on the Patient and on those around them.
"As Lyme disease progresses, it can attack the nervous system, producing learning disabilities, mood swings, anxiety and depression, panic attacks, obsessive behavior, sudden rages and other psychiatric diagnoses. Says Raxlen, “When this happens, we’re looking at a completely different syndrome and one that is harder to cure.”

"Lyme disease can be a debilitating illness having a profound effect on interpersonal relationships and a patient’s ability to function at home, in school, and in the workplace. Making matters worse, most chronic Lyme patients suffer from delayed or inaccurate diagnoses prior to finding a doctor who will treat their illness effectively. Some patients have spent months or even years trying different treatments that don’t work, since their diagnosis was, in fact, wrong. Patients often feel isolated and trapped when those around them do not understand the complexity of their illness and what they are experiencing."
This Website has several PDF's you can read and download under Resources:  Boundaries for Lyme Patients 101, Reflections on Lyme Disease and the Family, and Lyme Disease Screening Protocols.

We have a list of financial resources for patients located in our RESOURCE tab on this website.

Some other resources to consider are watching the movie Under Your Skin and its counterpart Emergence.  Both movies help patients and their families understand the complexities and complications that Lyme Disease patients have to navigate.
Adult Lyme Disease Patients basic questions answered about Disability Benefits and Medical Insurance
"Eligibility for disability benefits depends on the limitations you have as a result of both physical and mental impairments. For example, in addition to the physical limitations imposed by Lyme disease, the pain and fatigue may cause mental strain or depression which can affect your ability to function in the work place."
